St Ann's Well Residents Society (SAWRS)
St Ann's Well Residents Society (SAWRS) brings together residents from the six apartment blocks surrounding St Ann's Well Gardens. Our aim is to strengthen community connections, represent the interests of local residents, and help preserve the character and tranquillity of the park and surrounding neighbourhood.
For over a century the area around St Ann's Well has been a place where neighbours come together. Residents have shared the nearby bowling green and tennis courts, with some learning to play park tennis through local coaching in the park. In recent years, changes to funding for community sport facilities have affected both the bowling and tennis facilities, highlighting the importance of having a strong local voice to represent the community.
SAWRS was formed to provide that voice. We want to ensure that residents are informed, involved, and able to contribute to decisions that affect the park and surrounding area.
Our Mission
Our mission is to build a cohesive local community around St Ann's Well Gardens while protecting the natural and peaceful character of the park.
We aim to:
- Encourage community cohesion among residents in the neighbourhood
- Provide a collective voice on local issues affecting the park and surrounding homes
- Organise community events that bring neighbours together
- Support activities such as free tennis opportunities for local children
- Host community picnics and social gatherings
- Work with local stakeholders to help keep the park a tranquil and welcoming space
We also recognise the ecological importance of the park, including our local dark skies policy concerning light pollution at night. The area is home to a variety of wildlife, including bats and many bird species, and we support conservation efforts that protect and enhance the local environment.
Our Community
SAWRS is open to all residents in the St Ann's Well neighbourhood who wish to take part in strengthening our community.
The society is currently guided by a steering group of seven residents, who volunteer their time to organise activities and represent local interests.

Community Activities
We are working to develop a programme of local initiatives and events, including:
- Community gatherings and seasonal events
- Park days focused on nature, wildlife, and conservation
- Opportunities for neighbours to meet and connect
- Collaboration with other community groups such as Friends of St Ann's Well Gardens
Our goal is to support a friendly micro-community where neighbours know one another and feel involved in the future of the area.
Working With the Community
"We believe that changes affecting the park and surrounding neighbourhood should be made with the community, not to the community. SAWRS exists to help ensure residents' views are heard and considered when decisions are being made."
